All students are advised that they must ensure that any software they are using is appropriately licensed and their use of the software complies with the terms and conditions of the license agreement. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that they are appropriately licenced for all software on the devices they own.
Students can avail of software under the Site Licences College has purchased, these include:
McAfee Anti-Virus Software
Under the College site licence agreement, all student computers connected to the campus network can avail of McAfee anti-virus software for the Mac and Windows PC. The software can be obtained by contacting the IS Services Helpdesk.
Students can get a copy of SPSS for their own personal computers under the College SPSS site licence. SPSS is licenced for educational use and not for research funded by a business or organisation that would result in commercial gain.
To download the SPSS installation files please visit the TCD Software Download site. You must be connected to the College network using wired access via PACR (Computer Rooms). During the installation process you will need the latest SPSS licence code.
If there are any issues with the process above then a copy of the installation media can be obtained from the IS Services Helpdesk. Students must fill in the SPSS copyright acknowledgement form and return it to the IS Services Helpdesk in Áras an Phiarsaigh to obtain a copy of the software.
At the end of each academic year, in July, a licence notice indicating that you must obtain a new licence code will appear in SPSS. Please see our web pages on how to update the SPSS licence code.
Students can get a copy of Mathematica for Windows, Mac or Linux for their own personal computers, or for a College-owed computer they are using, under the College Mathematica site licence agreement. The software can be downloaded from the Wolfram download site by following the relevant link below. You will need to register and will then receive an activation code. When registering you must use your TCD email address. Details of the terms and conditions of the licence are available on the Wolfram website.
The licence covers use for Postgraduate Research students on College-owned computers and for home use on personally-owned computers. Undergraduate student use is restricted to on-campus computing facilities.
The software is available for download by following the TCD MATLAB installation instructions. If more information is needed on the licence, instructions for installation or technical support please contact MathWorks UK 0044 1223 226700, select option 3 for Customer Service and option 4 for Technical Support, quoting License no. 729365.
Staff and Research Postgraduates can avail of ArcGIS under the College site licence. Details of the agreement are available on the eduserv website. To obtain a copy of the software, Staff and Research Postgraduates must fill out the ArcGIS copyright acknowledgement form and return it to the IS Services Helpdesk in Áras an Phiarsaigh.
Staff and all students can avail of a 1-year license for ArcGIS Desktop. This enables you to install ArcGIS onto a PC in a standalone environment, not connected to the License Server. The license expires 1 year after activation, or when the existing ESRI license expires (July 2014). If you wish to obtain a 1-year licence for ArcGIS Desktop then please submit a request for a 1-year ArcGIS Desktop licence.
Microsoft DreamSpark enables students to download Microsoft developer and design tools at no charge. Students can access this through the following web site: http://www.dreamspark.com/. Unless you are undertaking courses or modules in the School of Computer Science or the School of Electronic & Electrical Engineering then please select 'DreamSpark for Students' on this website. Students in these Schools can select 'DreamSpark for Academic Institutions'.
In order to get this software from Microsoft at no charge, students will be asked to establish or verify their student status once every 12 months. They will need to sign up using their College email address. There are a host of Microsoft Developer tools available such as Visual Studio, Designer tools such as Expression Studio and Platform resources such as Windows Server and SQL server.
LabVIEW is available for registered TCD students and staff to install. Please read and accept the LabVIEW licence agreement and you will be provided with the download link and current licence code.
The Software Catalogue gives information on how to obtain or access other various applications. Using it you can find out what software is installed in the different College Computer Rooms. Licencing information is also available on other widely used software.
