Below is brief information regarding how to save your files when working in the College computer rooms. Further information is available via the podcast, linked to on the right, and via the links below.
There are several options for where to save your files:
- Each student is provided with a Documents or Drive facility in their MyZone account to which they can upload data files, either via the desktop shortcut in the College computer rooms or by logging in at myzone.tcd.ie. This online MyZone storage area has a 5GB quota and can also be accessed from any computer with internet access. For those still with the Documents facility, Google are in the process of updating this to a new Drive facility.
- Each student is also provided with a 100MB Personal Filestorage folder which can be accessed from any College computer. This is the default save location oin the College computer rooms when using common applications like MS Word.
- When working in the College computer rooms do not save work directly to the computer you are using - save to either one of these storage areas. If you save directly to the local computer, for example to the Deskop, and log out then your data may not be retrievable.
- Always save a second copy of important work to removable media such as a USB memory key
