Software Usage Policy
All students are advised that they must ensure that any software they are using is appropriately licensed and their use of the software complies with the terms and conditions of the license agreement. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that they are appropriately licenced for all software on the devices they own.
Software Available to Students
Students can avail of software under the Site Licenses College has purchased on behalf of staff. These include:
McAfee Anti-Virus Software
Under the College site license agreement, all student computers connected to the campus network can avail of McAfee anti-virus software for the Mac and PC. The software can be obtained by contacting the IS Services Helpdesk.
SPSS
Students can get a copy of SPSS for their own personal machines under the College SPSS site license. Students must however fill in the SPSS Copyright Acknowledgement form and return it to the IS Services Helpdesk in Áras an Phiarsaigh in order to get a copy of the software.
Mathematica
Students can get a copy of Mathematica (for the PC, Mac or Linux) for their own personal machines under the College Mathematica site license agreement. The software is available at the IS Services Helpdesk. Once installed, students should register online at http://register.wolfram.com using the following license code L4706-9395. Details of the terms and conditions of the license are available on the Wolfram website.
Other Software
The Software Catalogue gives information on how to obtain or access other various applications. Using it you can find out what software is installed in the different College Computer Rooms. Licensing information is also available on other widely used software.
Purchasing Software
The Ultimate Steal
Microsoft have also introduced a new web-based promotion called The Ultimate Steal (http://www.theultimatesteal.ie) which is now available to Irish students. This promotion gives TCD students the option to acquire Office Ultimate 2007 via the web at the low student price of €52, which is a significant saving on the normal retail price.
It is a full version of Office 2007 Ultimate Edition which students can get by downloading the free trial version of Office 2007 Ultimate Edition web site and then paying €52 for a product key that will convert the free trial to a perpetual license, which can be used by the student forever, subject to the terms of the Office 2007 Ultimate Edition Software License Terms. There is an option for a small fee to purchase a back-up DVD containing the Office 2007 Ultimate Edition software which is sent to the student's address.
In addition to the standard issue Office components, Office Ultimate 2007 also includes Groove 2007, a collaboration tool, and OneNote 2007, a digital notebook for storing, searching and sharing notes and other information. The student also has the option to purchase additional products at deeply discounted prices. To qualify, the individual must possess a valid TCD e-mail address at which contains the domain suffix '@tcd.ie'. Each eligible student is limited to one purchase per valid e-mail address. This new promotion lives at TheUltimateSteal where users can begin the verification and purchase process.

Microsoft DreamSpark
Microsoft DreamSpark enables students to download Microsoft developer and design tools at no charge. Students can access this through the following web site: http://www.studentsoftware.ie/.
In order to get this software from Microsoft at no charge, students will be asked to establish or verify their student status once every 12 months. They will need to sign up using college student email address. There are a host of Microsoft Developer tool available such as Visual Studio, Designer tools such as Expression Studio and Platform resources such as Windows Server and SQL server available. This cutting edge software will be available to empower students to unlock their ingenuity by building critical skills.
